Ghent-based Eric de Volder is an iconic figure of Flemish theatre. For over 15 years, De Volder and his theatre company Ceremonia have placed ordinary man and his fortunes centrally. Last season their play Tolken told the story of the suffering of a refugee denied residency in Belgium. TG Ceremonia’s plays are created in an organic working process using improvisation and make ample use of make-up, masks and grotesque visual language. In Smoor, a girl student falls in love with her female teacher, until everyone starts interfering with their relationship. Nobody knows how the evening will end…
After his collaboration with Theater Rast (Tolken) last season, Smoor sees De Volder return to his own ensemble. He leaves the grandeur of the Theaterzaal to play this more intimate work in the Domzaal.
