The concert of Dave Douglas was previously announced as Dave Douglas – Magic Circle.
Jazz trumpet player Dave Douglas is an established name on the international jazz scene. An incredibly gifted trumpet player, he understands the art of playing and composing within the idiom as well as exploring the outer limits of jazz. Since 1994, he has recorded up to 25 albums. He knows Vooruit like the back of his hand, as he has performed here countless times with numerous projects, among which were the Tiny Bell Trio with Jim Black, John Zorn’s Acoustic Masada and his collaboration with the Ictus Ensemble. This time round, he will be performing with bass player Scott Coley and violin player Mark Feldman: another surprising line-up for which drums were deemed unnecessary, making his phenomenal trumpet skills stand out even more.
In 2007 pianist Free Desmyter released his album, Something to share. Flemish quality newspaper De Morgen wrote: “he performs compositions that allow ample space for the performers, neither too complicated nor too solid, yet appealing at the same time. He likes calculated hesitation and moments of suspense”. He will be joined by Italian double bass player Manolo Cabras, Czech drummer Marek Patrman and American reed player John Ruocco: a close-knit international combo.
