René Heyvaert (1929-1984) was an architect and an artist, but only got the respect he deserved with a retrospective in the SMAK (The Municipal Museum of Modern Art – Ghent) after his death. Together with author Paul Mennes, his nephew Pol Heyvaert, a dramatist, adapted texts by and about his uncle. On stage we see the auditions for the lead role: of the three remaining actors, who is fit to portray the rebellious artist and the fickle person that was René Heyvaert? Pol Heyvaert called in Das Pop to supply the music. His previous production, Aalst, co-written by Flemish author Dimitri Verhulst and based on the trial of a family drama in Aalst, Belgium, toured the world and was performed in an adapted version by the National Theatre of Scotland.
