Chopsticks is a musical/visual project by the record label of the same name. Experienced musicians from four different bands (Moker, Brick Quartet, Barkin’ and Prak) will join forces under the supervision of guitarist and composer Matthias Van de Wiele. They experiment with the underlying relationship between music and cinema (e.g. Dagmar Duportail’s short films). The songs make associations with the moving image, but without making one medium superior to the other.

With the help of visual artist and film maker Carola Spadona, Italian jazz combo Zu also tries to strike the perfect balance between music and film. Zu has over 14 releases and 1000 concerts to its name. They have worked with the likes of Mike Patton, Eugene Chadbourne, Vandermark 5 and members of Fugazi, Sonic Youth and The Stooges. Their mix of noise and free jazz is often described as innovative and evocative.

For their new show Carboniferous, Carola Spadoni will edit newly shot footage, shows drawing from the new Zu album for inspiration: eerie sequences of the streets of Sao Paulo (Brasil), the burning of the Ostia pinewood forest and the Burri’s cretto in Gibellina (italy), an abandoned camp site (Corsica). The imagery of doomed landscapes and intense visions will flow thorughout the performance.
