In 2006 Justin Vernin retreated to a remote cabin in the Wisconsin woods to hibernate after his band Deyarmond Edison split. He filled his days with thinking, hunting and chopping wood, while also making time to write new songs, although he hadn’t originally set out to. He released 500 copies of the result, the album For Emma, Forever Ago, under the pseudonym Bon Iver. Pitchork gave the album 8.1 out 10, and the record featuring sensitive acoustic neo-soul sold out in no time.
