A chance meeting with Jason McGerr, drummer for Death Cab for Cutie, in a record store changed the lives of teen sisters Chloe an Asya forever. While their dad was waiting in line downstairs to restring a violin, the girls wandered into the percussion area upstairs, where they met Jason Mc Gerr. He became their mentor and their music teacher. The sisters formed Smoosh, with Asya, the youngest, on vocals and piano and Chloe on drums.
That was in 2000.
In the meantime, the girls have built an impressive repertoire. They have made two albums (She Like Electric and Free to Stay) filled to the brim with cheerful rock and have toured with Jimmy Eat World, Rilo Kiley, Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Sleater-Kinney and Cat Power.
It’s hard to believe that they are still only 14 and 16!
