American band A whisper in the Noise cannot easily be pidgeonholed: while their bombastic sound has The Arcade Fire written all over it, their drawn-out soundscapes are reminiscent of Mogwai’s post rock.
The Minnesota band, known for its Weltschmerz, lives in a world full of unrequited love and dark, melancholy stories. Their recently released third album, Dry Land, produced by Steve Albini, wallows in this theme. Singer West Thordson’s fragile vocals and the orchestral arrangements add power to the songs and linger in your mind for days.
A Whisper in the Noise’s songs are like lullabies. Not the sweet kind, but the scary, nightmare-inducing kind… Who said there weren’t any monsters under your bed?
