Composer and jazz sax player Tom Van Dyck lives in a big world. Why choose one story when a dialogue between different stories would make the story so much more interesting?
Jazz sax player Tom Van Dyck invited six other musicians for his project t-unit 7. This unity of seven sounds much more intense than the sum of seven musicians. Tom Van Dyck’s secret? He picked musicians who are good at communicating with each other and the compositions, thus becoming one with the band.
t-unit 7 balances between silky soft and razor sharp and makes for a special sound experience courtesy of its unique line up. The seven of them can easily perform layered big band tracks without losing the intimacy of a smaller line-up. On top of that, all of them are incredibly talented musicians. Trumpet player Paré never finished a year of music college without getting first prize, pianist Pierreux showcased his talent at the Flemish Jazz Meeting 2007 and bass player Haanstra has won prizes at three jazz festivals. One of Tom Van Dyck’s other projects, Saxkartel, got the Grand Prix du Jury at the renowned Tremplin jazz festival in Avignon, France.
This performance is in the 5 For Students top 5!
t-unit7: Tom Van Dyck (alt, soprano and bariton sax, compositions), Fred Delplancq (tenor sax), Peter Delannoye (trombone), Michel Paré (trumpet), Ewout Pierreux (piano, Fender Rhodes), Mark Haanstra (NL) (fretless electric bass) & Herman Pardon (drums)
