With this documentary, Josh Rubin has made an intriguing portrait of the schizophrenic outsider musician Larry ‘Wild Man’ Fischer. Once the protégé of Frank Zappa and Barnes & Barnes, the psychotic street singer gained cult status in the seventies. He’s sometimes – rather disrespectfully – referred to as the missing link between Syd Barret and Homer Simpson. For those who are not acquainted with his music, this film is a great document of the relationship between paranoia, creativity and absolute madness.
