Contrary to other exhibitions, where objects are safely tucked away behind glass, this one invites you to get grooving yourself. The instruments on display will allow you to produce electronic sounds yourself. Maybe this seems obvious, but not so long ago, (in the 1970s and 80s) you still needed a keyboard to program electronic instruments and twenty years before that, the machines worked with cables and turning knobs.
For OORSMEER, STEIM will bring along the world famous Crackleboxes, the Fingerweb, the Headbanger, the Sound Portraits and the Sound Scratcher. The instruments were originally designed for sound experiments. The designers (composers, musicians, playwrights, etc.) let their imagination run free and thought up the craziest sound objects. The exhibition is an ode to creativity, and this goes for the makers of the instruments as well as for their players.
