Back in 2001, Flip Kowlier surprised friend and foe with his solo debut Ocharme ik.
Prior to this, he was mainly known for his rapping skills which he showcased with Flemish hip hop band ‘t Hof Van Commerce. Ocharme ik was a warm, melancholy album and was deservingly rewarded with two Zamu Awards and a gold record in Belgium. Dutch music review OOR placed it at the top of their 2001 Moordlijst (a list featuring the must-have albums of the year).
In 2004, the time was ripe for a new album. He took to the studio again with the same crew with whom he had worked on Ocharme ik. The result was In de fik, a versatile record that was chock-a-block full with honest and simple songs. Ranging from pop to rock, from melancholy to happiness and from country to reggae, In de fik was once again a sample of Kowlier’s talent.
Three years down the line, Flip Kowlier has a new album. On De man van 31 he sounds more grown up than ever.
