Does the name Tom Pintens ring a bell? This musical jack-of-all-trades was one of the founders of Zita Swoon and Think of One, where he proved his talent. Pintens also produced albums of all-female band Billie King and Flemish folk ensemble Laïs and made scores for the screen and the theatre. Just think back to Julien Vrebos’s Le Bal Masqué and Tom Van Dyck’s Kaatje is verdronken.
As if all of this weren’t enough for this Antwerp-based musician, Pintens decided to give the world a taste of his own work. His first project was called 2000 Monkeys. Now he has released a Dutch-language album under his own name. The result is a tender, acoustic album full of poetic song that will be stuck in your mind for days. One of the songs on the album, Al die tijd, received plenty of airplay on Flemish radio stations.
Pintens’s girlfriend Ellen Schoenaerts wrote the lyrics, and his old pals Aarich Jespers (Zita Swoon) and Mirko Banovic (Arno, Daan, Laïs) provided musical assistance. Probably one of the most intriguing Dutch-language albums of the year.
