If you like to dance the waltz, the Paso Doble or the tango, get close during a slow dance or prefer to stand on the side, hoping that some hottie will notice you, the Concurrence can help you. The big orchestra embraces sadness as well as happiness, and takes you from the Balkans to Mexico and back in one joyous conga. Vanfaere De Concurrence from Ghent switches from tearjerkers to Tex-Mex to French waltz while you watch. The ideal way to dance away the Christmas blues.
De Concurrence is a group of 12 to 16 musicians – their number depends on the time of year. They mainly play their own work, which is inspired by diverse genres. They try out every possible combination; what do you think of Russian melancholy in the mountains of South Tyrol? Or Goran Bregovic on a Jamaican beach? Try for a second to picture this, and remember: it sounds good, it’s catchy and it doesn’t leave you untouched. In their own words: tight rhythms, exuberant tones and a nice groove are our basic ingredients.
