A theatre space contains all imaginable possibilities. Some have been executed in the past, some will happen in the future and some will only exist as an idea or a concept, never to come to live. How can we store all these possibilities? Deepblue gives it a try by comparing the theatre space to an archive. An archive functions as a place where concepts, knowledge and remains of other worlds and times are being saveguarded. It is our memory in a nutshell.
The performance You are here refers both to your actual physical location in the theatre, as to a possible world ready to unfold before your eyes when you consult the archive.
Dancer/choreographer Heine R. Avdal, female dancer Yukiko Shinozaki and sound artist Christoph De Boeck are deepblue. Though they all have projects of their own, they nevertheless find the time to set up joint projects. “You are here” is such a joint performance.
In ‘You are here’, they explore the relationship between the performers, the audience and the venue. After all, theatre is in effect an empty space that is filled with memories and traces of a parallel reality that is not or no longer there. Yet, the division of the audience and certain scenic objects are equally important.
Remember ‘Some notes are’ by Heine R. Avdal, which was performed at the Vooruit festival ‘the game is up!’? That performance continued during the intermission and even after the actual play, both in the foyer and in the restrooms.
