Michel Portal is an exceptional interpreter of classical masterpieces by the likes of Mozart, Brahms and Poulenc. He has worked with plenty of 20th-century masters, from Kagel and Stockhausen to Berio.

On top of that, he is also a revered symbol of European jazz and has played with Braxton, Solal, Liebman, Sclavis,… The combination of these two worlds means that the now 70-year old Portal masters his instruments (the clarinet and the saxophone) perfectly in improvisation as wel as when he is playing sheet music. His compositions for film and dance have been awarded several prizes.

Portal will play at Vooruit with the usual suspects, i.e. Swiss drummer Daniel Humair and French bass player Bruno Chevillon. Because these three musicians have known each other for years, this promises to become one memorable Sunday night.
