Last year, Ultima Vez, Wim Vandekeybus’s dance company, celebrated its twentieth anniversary. This was celebrated with the special performance Spiegel, an anthology of the most memorable scenes from Vandekeybus’s oeuvre.
De Standaard wrote: “Vandekeybus has rarely been imitated, perhapsthis is even impossible. His work gives proof of an outspoken personality. His signature is unique. It never triggered a movement, nor is it the result of one. Wim Vandekeybus is Wim Vandekeybus. And that to the highest degree.”
The alienated human and his (lack of) adaptation skills are the basis for Menske, Wim Vandekeybus’s newest creation. In a small community, ten people live together, but at the same time they are worlds apart. Each one of them is confronted with a personal crisis in a forever changing world. After the extremely physical choreography in Spiegel, Menske promises to be a symbiosis of dance, theatre, music and scenography. Daan wrote the score for the show.
