Travel directions

By car

Keep the evening rush hour in mind!
Leave on time. You can still eat a meal, a sandwich or soup in the café.

Coming from Brussels Airport

Coming from the airport, take the A201 direction Brussels. At exit 4 take the R0. Then drive on to the E40 via exit 10 (directions continue below).

Coming from Antwerp, Brussels, Oostende, Kortrijk (E40, E17)

Take the ‘Gent Centrum’ exit, then follow the ‘Alle Richtingen’ sign. Once you’re off the viaduct, turn left at the lights (under the viaduct). This will lead you onto the Ghent ring road. At the next lights, take a right turn, into the Overpoortstraat. Continue along this street until you arrive at the Sint-Pietersplein. There’s an inexpensive underground parking lot located here. Vooruit is situated on the Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat, at walking distance from the parking lot (see also: parking)

To drive into Ghent via the Zuidplein (underground parking lot near Vooruit) take the ‘Gent centrum’ exit on the E40 or the E17. Then follow the ‘Gent Centrum’ sign once again instead of the ‘Alle Richtingen’ sign. Once you’re off the viaduct, go straight on at the light (the Zuidpark is on you left side). Keep in the left lane. Like this, you can drive into the parking lot. When leaving the parking lot, keep the library to your left and the shopping centre to your right and walk up to Vooruit (see also below, under parking)

Public transport

From Brussels Airport to Gent Sint-Pieters station

In the airport building, go to level –1 and take the train with direction Gent Sint-Pieters station (we advise you not to take the train which passes through Aalst, because this will take longer!). There is a direct train every hour, but you can also take the train to Brussel Noord station at the airport, where about three trains an hour leave for Ghent.

From Amsterdam Centraal station to Gent Sint-Pieters station

In Amsterdam Centraal station, take the train with direction Brussel Zuid station. Get off in Antwerpen Central station. There is a train to Gent Sint Pieters station every half hour. You can also get off at Gent Dampoort station, where you can take buses 6, 70 to 72, 76 to 78 to Vooruit (stop: Zuid)

From Gent Sint Pieters station to Vooruit

From Gent Sint-Pieters you can get to Vooruit with:

  • tram 1 (stop: Verlorenkost or Savaanstraat – this is the most frequent tram)
  • tram 21 or 22 (stop: Zuid)
  • bus 55 (S), 57, 58 (S), 70 to 72, 76 to 78 (stop: Zuid)

When getting off at the Zuid stop, keep the library to your left and the shopping centre to your right and walk up to Vooruit. Cross the street at the lights and take the Lammerstraat, straight ahead of you. Turn left at the end of the street (at the lights). Vooruit is practically on the corner. From the Verlorenkost stop continue along the Kortrijksepoortstraat, then turn right at the Bagattenstraat. Continue along this street until you arrive at Vooruit (right in front of you).
From the Savaanstraat stop walk back a bit and take the Bagattenstraat to your left.

For further information we would like to refer you to the websites of the NMBS rail), De Lijn (buses and trams) or the NS (Dutch rail).
